    Do the world a favor and pop that pimple.

    So, the other day, i had the biggest honkin pimple ever, right on the bridge of my nose. it was nasty. but it made me think of this, albeit odd, interesting analogy. so here we go.

    think of a big ol zit as a big ol sin. it pops up first very very small, then we (most of the time unaware of it) add to it buy rubbing more oil into it. the next day, BAM! you've got a huge pimple! its very much like sin. with most sin, it only starts out very small. maybe we see it on tv. maybe we hear about it on the radio, or maybe one of our friends tells us about it or something their doing with it. then we get interested, and start poking at it. then suddenly, we're living in sin, its got its arms strangling us, and it just looks horrible!

    next you either walk around with a huge zit on your face grossing everyone out, or you try to pop it. most people try to pop it. now with the little pimples, you squeeze them, they pop, and they're basically gone. woot. BUT if they're big ones, you squeeze, you wince, you jump around in frustrated little circles, you cry (k not really..), you bleed a little. all in all, its not a very fun process. BUT if you keep working at it, eventually it *finally* pops! its SO gratifying when it finally leaves! but most of the time, you've still got a tiny little pink mark. most people then put some sort of medication on it to finish the process. Sin is just the same. trying to get rid of the big ugly thing is SO hard. its a really long, hard process. there's pain, many times tears, a LOT of hard work, and much frustration at yourself, and the sin. but then it happens! you either lose the battle and keep on sinning. Or you win, and get rid of that sin! now that def. worth a big woot. WOOT!!! and tieing in the zit medication, i like to think of that as Godly friends who help you along with fighting sin by encouraging you.

    but then what? do we just go on living a carefree and sinless life? of course not. The bible says that we all have sin natures, which means that we all will sin. period. in other words, no matter how hard we try, we're gonna keep on getting pimples. but we can take precautions, scrub our faces, read our bibles, get Godly counsel, and get some acne scrub. (btw, that stuff works really well! like go get some apricot scrub from some drugstore or convenience store. its great.) when we do set shields up, we are def. tempted more often by satan. but everytime we keep our shields up, (keep scrubbing those faces!) we get better and better at defending ourselves against sin. often, our zits are smaller and less frequent.

  • Oh, how He loves us!

    Psalm 4 (NIV):

    1 Answer me when I call to you,
    O my righteous God.
    Give me relief from my distress;
    be merciful to me and hear my prayer.

    How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?

    I love this Psalm. it's exciting. it's quickly becoming one of my favorites. i thought i'd share with you two verses in there that i find amazing.

    Verse 3 says "The LORD has set apart the godly for Himself". woah. that's weird! I think two things about this are really amazing. the first is that we do all this sinning and God still wants us. the second is that He not only wants us, he set us apart from the others cause he wants us so much! think about it: most of the time, we set apart the BEST things for ourselves. we always try to save the best seats, best food, best whatever for ourselves. (i'm not saying its always bad, its just what we seem to do) so if God sets us apart from the rest of the world, He's saying that we're the BEST. He's saying that he wants us so much more than everyone else that he puts his "tag" on us. He reserves us for himself. wow! i personally find that....confusing. If i had made the world and it turned against me and cursed me, i don't think i'd be WANTING them!

    The other thing which i find awesome is verse 7. "You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound." this is one of my new favorite verses. the "they" in this verse are the nonbelievers. i donno about you guys, but i know a LOT of people who aren't christians who seem to have EVERYTHING. they've got money, they've got good looks, lots of friends, are good athletes, huge houses, and (sometimes) it seems like they don't even have any serious problems in thier life. all these material things. soooo many times it seems like their on top. that they've got everything. but when i'm a christian, sometimes it feels like I don't have much, that i'd kinda sorta like to have some of that fancy stuff. but this verse is SO true! when we search for God and spend time with Him, he fills us with SO much more joy than those people have! Its so exciting to know that God is always taking care of us, of our every need! whats so different is that while they are happy, we are joyful! happiness is an emotion, it changes like anger, sadness, or hyperness (i get that last one a lot...hah). but joy is something in the heart. joy is long lasting happiness. it doesn't go away. so while they have their temporary pleasures, we have God for FOREVER!

    so thats a great verse. what's your favorite??

  • hey there!

    So basically, this is my blog where i'm just gonna right about stuff. mainly concerning important things i find in my devotions. My name is abby, and i'm not expecting anyone to read this, but thats fine by me. =) so just so everyone knows, God is my most important focus. He is my everything, He's done so much for me. My favorite place on earth (pretty much =) is camp. Both years ive gone, God has worked in my life, and changed my heart. Both years I have gone, i've had a major need in my life. and both years, God provided me with a counselor that really fill that need and taught me biblically how to deal with it. so that was a major Godsend. Here's a few of my favorite verses:

    Psalm 62:1-2 "My soul finds rest in God alone, my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken."

    Psalm 4:3,7 "Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for Himself; the Lord will hear when I call to Him." (7) "You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound."

    Ephesians 3:17-19 "And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

    Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing."

    Ephesians 6:19-20 "Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that i may declare it fearlessly, as I should."

    1 Corinthians 4: 7-12, 16-18 "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you."     1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
